£220,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

A90 Todhills, southbound

Works start Sunday 29 November for one week

A section of the A90 north of Dundee is set to benefit from major carriageway resurfacing improvements with work set to get underway from Sunday.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A90 between the A928 Kirriemuir Junction and Inveraldie, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The £220,000 project is programmed to start on Sunday 29 November and is expected to take place over one week using 24-hour working with all improvements expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 5 December. To allow these works to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restrictions will be required on the network as follows;

  • Sunday 29 November – Overnight lane closures will be in place for safety on both the northbound and southbound carriageways to allow traffic management to be installed ahead of the project.

  • Monday 30 November to Saturday 5 December – To ensure the safety of road workers and road users, a contraflow system will be in place between Tinkle Tap and Inveraldie with single lane traffic travelling on the northbound carriageway while the A90 southbound carriageway is resurfaced. For safety, the Tealing and Murroes Junctions and crossovers will be closed to both northbound and southbound traffic during the works; however, a signed diversion will be in place to guide motorists to their destinations for each junction closure. Bus stops within the site extents will be closed, however a shuttle bus will be provided to transport passengers to alternative bus stops in line with the main bus timetable.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £220,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we’ve planned the improvements to take place using 24-hour working, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”

Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
