A section of the A92 near Thornton in Fife is set to benefit from landscaping improvements with work starting this weekend.
The project will involve teams cutting overgrown scrub and vegetation between Redhouse Roundabout and Bankhead Roundabout as well thinning the existing treeline to promote healthier growth of the remaining trees on the southbound verge. As part of the work, a number of trees will also be felled, helping to improve safety for road users and residents.
The project will begin at 6am on Saturday 7 November and will take place over one week and two weekends with the works scheduled to be completed by 7pm on Sunday 15 November. The project has been split into phases to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum during the work, with the project due to take place as follows;
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway. New safe operation procedures and risk assessments have also been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project.
Consultation has taken place with the relevant stakeholders in advance of the works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “These works will involve our landscaping teams clearing some of the vegetation next to the A92, promoting healthier growth but also ensuring that any trees or branches that could pose a hazard are removed.
“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the weekend works under 24-hour working to ensure the project timescale is kept to a minimum. The closures are essential for keeping our operatives safe as well as motorists.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out this essential maintenance on the A92. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
