BEAR SCOTLAND WELCOMES A RECORD NUMBER OF NEW STUDENT PLACEMENTS FROM ABERTAY UNIVERSITY

February 8, 2022

In February, BEAR Scotland welcomed 13 new student placements from Abertay University as part of their BEng Civil Engineering degree. This is the largest intake the company has hosted to date.

During the 12-week placement, the third-year civil and environmental engineering university students will be working with some of the teams in BEAR’s Perth office where they will gain valuable experience within the engineering industry.

Throughout the placement, the students will be split into different departments ranging from Bridges to Road Safety, offering a wide scope of different opportunities.

The students join a long list of previous student placements that have gained valuable knowledge and experience whilst working at BEAR and this record number of students underlines BEAR’s commitment to developing aspiring engineers.

BEAR has a long-established relationship with Abertay University and also provides a scholarship for civil and environmental engineering students named in memory of former BEAR Managing Director who attended Abertay, Bill Taylor. Bill was a Dundee Institute of Technology graduate in civil engineering before Abertay became a university.

BEAR Scotland’s Managing Director, Iain Murray, said: “This is the most student industry placements that we have welcomed at one time and underlines our commitment to investing in the future talent pipe-line. We are always eager to help aspiring engineers to develop their skills and give them practical experience to learn first-hand about the industry.

“The three-month placement with BEAR will provide them with the opportunity to gain excellent work experience. They will be integrated into our highly experienced teams across the North West and North East Units where they will learn about how we operate and maintain trunk roads across Scotland.

“The work experience will provide a significant advantage when seeking full-time employment and we often see many placement students return to the company as permanent employees. We hope they enjoy their three months with BEAR and gain experience to help in their future careers.”
