BRIDGE JOINT REPLACEMENT WORKS ON M9 AT WINCHBURGH

September 27, 2022

  • Overnight southbound carriageway closures 3-7 October 2022

The bridge carrying the M9 over the railway just west of Junction 1A Kirkliston is to undergo essential joint replacement works on the nights of Monday 3 October to Friday 7 October.

Temporary repairs have already been completed, however the full replacement of the joints requires the M9 to be closed southbound between Junction 2 Philipstoun and Junction 1A Kirkliston for five nights.

From 20:30 each night until 06:00 the next morning, traffic travelling southbound on the M9 will be directed to leave the M9 at Junction 2 Philipstoun and follow the A904 to M90 Junction 1A Queensferry, before taking the M90 southbound to rejoin the M9 at Junction 1A Kirkliston.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “The project to replace these joints is essential to ensuring the safety of road users and making sure that this motorway structure continues to provide reliable service for years to come.

“We always avoid closing roads wherever it is safe and practical to do so, however the specific location and nature of these joints mean that a full closure of the M9 southbound is necessary for the safety of road users and our operatives.  We have scheduled the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and we thank motorists in advance for their patience and understanding”.

Consultation has taken place in advance of these works with all relevant stakeholders including local authorities and Police Scotland to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
