BRIDGE REPAIRS ON M9 JUNCTION 1 SOUTHBOUND ON-SLIP

September 25, 2024

  • Overnight slip road closure 5 October 2024

The slip road onto the M9 southbound at Junction 1 Newbridge Roundabout will be closed on the night of 5 October, to carry out essential repairs to the parapet of a bridge carrying the motorway to M8 Junction 2.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the work between the hours of 20:30 and 06:00.

Signed diversion routes will be in place from Newbridge Roundabout for traffic wishing to join the M9 southbound towards M8 Junction 2:

  • Road users wishing to join the M8 eastbound will be diverted eastbound via the A8 (Glasgow Road) to Gogar Roundabout then the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass, exiting at the first off-slip to Hermiston Gait Retail Park and M8 Junction 1. This diversion will add approximately 4 miles and 8 minutes to affected journeys.
  • Road users wishing to join the M8 westbound will be diverted via the A89 to Dechmont Roundabout and the A899 to Livingston East Roundabout before joining the M8 westbound at Junction 3. This diversion will add approximately 6 miles and 11 minutes to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times and traffic on the M9 north of Newbridge will not be affected.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the works.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “It is essential for safety that we close this slip road while we repair a damaged bridge parapet.

“We understand that this will be disruptive and have planned the works to take place at night when traffic flows are lower to reduce the impact.

“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”
