BRIDGE WORKS AT M8 JUNCTION 2

December 3, 2024

  • Overnight closure in both directions between Junctions 1 and 2 on Wednesday 18 December 2024

The M8 will be closed in both directions between Junction 1 Hermiston Gait and Junction 2 Claylands from 20:30 until 06:00 on the night of Wednesday 18 December.

This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to complete parapet refurbishment works on two bridges carrying the motorway at Junction 2.

For westbound traffic, a signed diversion will be in place from Hermiston Gait Roundabout, via the A720 northbound to Gogar, the A8 Glasgow Road westbound to Newbridge, and the M9 southbound, adding approximately 6 minutes and 2 miles to affected journeys.

For eastbound traffic, a diversion will be in place from M8 Junction 2 via the M9 northbound to turn at Newbridge Roundabout, returning via the M9 southbound to rejoin the M8 via the Junction 2 eastbound on-slip, adding approximately 4 minutes and 1.5 miles to affected journeys.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This is the final phase of the project to refurbish the parapets on the bridges at M8 Junction 2.

“It’s essential for the safety of road users and the workforce that we close the carriageway, however we’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise the impact.

“We’re grateful to motorists for their patience and understanding.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
