The M80 will be closed in both directions at Junction 9 Pirnhall between 20:00 and 06:00 on the night of Thursday 26 September, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to move temporary safety barriers for ongoing parapet replacement works on two bridges carrying the motorway.
A signed diversion route for both northbound and southbound traffic will be in place via the respective slip roads to Pirnhall Roundabout, from where northbound traffic can continue onto the M9 via the westbound on-slip and southbound traffic can continue onto the M80 via the southbound on-slip. This will add an estimated 0.4 miles and 1 minute to affected journeys.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland Unit Bridges Manager, said: “It’s essential for the safety of road users and our workforce that we close the M80 while we carry out these works.
“Closures will only be in place at night and the diversion is a short one, so we don’t expect this to cause any significant delays.
“Further overnight closures of the M80 over these bridges will be required in the coming weeks while we continue our programme of joint replacement and parapet replacement works on both carriageways. We’ll share details of these as soon as timings are confirmed.”
Relevant stakeholders including emergency services have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the works.
