CARRIAGEWAY SURFACING WORKS ON THE A7 IN HAWICK

March 6, 2024

  • Overnight works commence Monday 25 March 2024 for two nights

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is set to resurface approximately 105 metres of carriageway and apply new road markings on the A7 at Buccleuch Road in Hawick. The works will take place over two nights, commencing Monday 25 March.

This will immediately follow currently ongoing works to widen the adjacent footway, complete civil engineering works for a new pedestrian crossing and improve the local carriageway drainage system.

On the night of Monday 25 March from 20:30 until 06:30, the A7 will be closed in both directions between North Bridge Roundabout in Hawick and the junction of the A7 and B720 near Canonbie. Local access for residents will be permitted.

A diversion route for trunk road traffic will be signposted from North Bridge Roundabout to the junction of the A7 and B7201, via the A6088, Bonchester Bridge and the B6357. This diversion will add approximately 67 miles and an additional 1 hour and 45 minutes to affected journeys.

On the night of Tuesday 26 March, the works will take place under temporary traffic lights with one lane running at the works area and no diversion required.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders including local authorities and Police Scotland in advance of these works.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These works will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists travelling along this stretch of the A7 in Hawick.

“We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their patience and understanding while we complete these improvements.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
