BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out controlled boulder removal works on the A82 at Grotaig, Loch Ness across three consecutive Saturday nights; 1, 8 & 15 February 2025.
For the safety of road users and workers, the A82 will be subject to a full road closure between Invermoriston and Drumnadrochit, between the hours of 23:00 to 05:00. During this period, trunk road traffic will be diverted via the A86 and A9.
On each Saturday night, six hours will be required to undertake the works and carry out assessments ahead of re-opening the road each Sunday morning. It is therefore not possible for the road to be open at any point throughout these hours.
BEAR Scotland has been working with all relevant stakeholders to inform them of the project and share information about the traffic management arrangements that will be in place.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s Northwest Representative said, “We understand that road closures can be frustrating for road users and apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential safety improvements. The removal of boulders from the rock slope will help to protect drivers and ensure the continued safe operation of the A82.
“We’ll be working hard to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.”
