Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, is to replace over 6,000 metres of filter drain on the eastbound A720, Edinburgh City Bypass between Baberton, Dreghorn and Lothianburn junctions.
Filter stone replacement works will begin on the evening of Monday 3 April for eight weeks. Work will take place overnight between 20:30 and 06:00 from Monday to Friday. No work will take place at the weekend.
For the safety of workers and road users during the works, the hard shoulder and lane one on the section of the A720 eastbound from Baberton junction to Lothianburn junction will be closed overnight from Monday, 3 April to Friday, 26 May 2023, excluding weekends.
To reduce the project’s environmental impact, filter drain material will be cleaned and recycled back into the scheme.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The upgrades to the surface water drainage system will improve safety for motorists travelling on this section of the bypass.
“We’ll do all we can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.”
