EMERGENCY JOINT REPAIRS ON THE M8 JUNCTION 5 OVERBRIDGE

September 17, 2024

  • Overnight closures of B7057 local road on 18, 19 and 20 September 2024

The bridge carrying the B7057 over at the M8 at Junction 5 (Shotts) will be closed between 20:00 and 06:00 on the nights of 18, 19 and 20 September, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out emergency joint repairs.

Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:

For M8 eastbound traffic wishing to join the B7057 southbound:

  • 18 September: Continue eastbound to exit at M8 Junction 4A, then travel south to join the B7066 through Harthill. This will add an estimated 9 miles and 13 minutes to affected journeys.
  • 19 and 20 September: Continue eastbound to turn at M8 Junction 4A and return via the westbound carriageway to exit at M8 Junction 5 and join the B7057 southbound. This will add an estimated 9 miles and 10 minutes to affected journeys.

For traffic wishing to join the M8 eastbound from the B7057:

  • Join the M8 westbound towards Glasgow to turn at Junction 6 and return eastbound towards Edinburgh. This will add an estimated 9 miles and 10 minutes to affected journeys.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland Unit Bridges Manager, said: “It’s essential for the safety of road users and our workforce that we close this bridge over the M8 while work takes place to repair a defective joint.

“Closures will only be in place at night, however please allow a few extra minutes for your journey if you do need to use this route.”
