ESSENTIAL BRIDGE MAINTENANCE WORKS FOR A85 FALLS OF CRUACHAN

March 4, 2025

  • Expansion joint replacement works start on Monday 10 March

  • Temporary traffic lights with 10mph speed restriction

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland are set to carry out essential maintenance on the A85 at Falls of Cruachan from Monday 10 March.

The works will involve replacing the bridge expansion joints on the carriageway and footpaths at either end of the structure. The works are being carried out as part of essential maintenance required to improve the road surface condition, prevent damage to the structure and address defects on the footpath.

To reduce travel disruption, the works have been planned between 7pm and 5am and works are due to be completed by the morning of Saturday 15 March.

To ensure the safety of the workforce, temporary traffic lights with a 10mph convoy system will be in place. Pedestrians will be safely escorted through the work area by the site team. The traffic signals will be removed outwith working hours to restore normal traffic flow during the daytime.

Access for emergency services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the maintenance work to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These essential works on the A85 at Falls of Cruachan will help improve the road surface reliability, prevent potential future damage to the bridge and fix a defect on the footpath.

“Our teams will carry out these works quickly, with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”
