Overnight carriageway and slip road closures are planned on the A1 in East Lothian on the nights of 7 and 8 December, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out essential repairs to the road surface.
On the night of Thursday 7 December, the northbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed at Thistly Cross Roundabout from 20:00 until 05:30. A diversion route will be signposted via the A199 to rejoin the A1 at Abbotsview Junction, adding approximately three minutes and no additional distance to affected journeys.
On the night of Friday 8 December the southbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed at Abbotsview Junction, with a diversion signposted via the A199 to Thistly Cross Roundabout.
The slip road onto the northbound A1 at Dolphingstone Junction will also be closed on the night of 8 December. A diversion route will be signposted via the A1 southbound to turn and join the A1 northbound at Bankton Junction, adding approximately 5 minutes and 3.4 miles to affected journeys.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The condition of the road surface on some sections of the A1 has deteriorated, so we need to close the carriageway overnight to allow us to carry out essential repairs.
“We’re grateful to road users for their patience and understanding. If you do need to use these routes on the nights of 7 or 8 December, our advice is to plan ahead and allow a few extra minutes for your journey.”
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.
Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
