ESSENTIAL SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED IN TWO LOCATIONS ON THE A830

September 10, 2024

Update: Due to a quarry breakdown, the works at A830 East of Beasdale will not take place today, Friday 27 September, and works will resume for completion on Monday 30 September. New dates below.
  • Daytime lane closures East of Beasdale started Wednesday 25 September for three days

  • Overnight road closures East of A861 Junction beginning Sunday 6 October for five nights

The carriageway along the A830 will benefit from an improved road surface as resurfacing works are set to take place in two places.
The surfacing improvements will involve resurfacing the road to make it more durable and resilient against inclement weather, as well as providing a safer road for road users. The works are required to address deteriorating road surface conditions here as well as improve road markings.
A830 East of Beasdale (6km east of Arisaig)
The works commenced on Wednesday 25 September at 7am until the evening of Monday 30 September at 7pm. Works will be carried out under two-way temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy. Outwith these hours traffic management will be removed and a 30mph speed limit will be in place for traffic travelling over the temporary surface. No work will take place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
A830 East of the A861 Junction (6km east of Glenfinnan)
The works are set to commence at 7pm on Sunday 6 October and are expected to finish on Friday 11 October at 7am. Outwith these hours all traffic management will be removed and a 30mph speed limit will be in place for traffic travelling over the temporary surface.
Due to the restricted road widths through this section of the A830, a full road closure will be in place in both directions between 7pm and 7am each night. During periods of closure, amnesties at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12pm, 2am and 4am will allow waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site. Emergency service vehicles will be allowed to pass through the site throughout the working period. The A861 Junction will remain open throughout the works.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said “These essential resurfacing works will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety for road
users as well as upgrading road markings to enhance road safety. We thank motorists for their patience ahead of these road improvements.” Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org or twitter @trafficscotland.
