  • Footway works at the new traffic signals on the junction between the A87 and A855 start from Monday 30 September

  • Three-way temporary traffic signals until Friday 11 October

BEAR Scotland, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to complete footway works at the junction between the A87 and the A855, adjacent to Portree High School.

These works are a continuation of the larger project to install new traffic signals at the junction to make it safer for pedestrians. The footway works will complete the project and remove the temporary surface.

Works will be carried out between 8am and 6pm from Monday 30 September to Friday 11 October. No works will be carried out at weekends. Some evening work may be required however any noisy operations will stop by 11pm.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public, lane closures will be in place with temporary traffic signals to control traffic. The permanent traffic lights will be switched off during working hours and switched back on outwith working hours to help reduce queues and waiting times.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said, “Road safety is a top priority for BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland, and these footway works will complete the project to improve road safety in this area.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and as safely as possible and minimise delays and inconvenience to the local community.”
