FOOTWAY INSTALLATION AT CASTLETOWN JUNCTION, THURSO

September 4, 2024

  • Footway installation works at the crossroad between the A9 and A836 start from Monday 9 September

  • Four-way temporary traffic signals until Friday 27 September

BEAR Scotland, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to start footway installation works at the crossroads junction between the A9 and the A836, adjacent to the Tesco store.

These works are a continuation of a larger project which involved replacing the traffic signals at the junction to make it safer for pedestrians. The footway installation will complete a circular footway route from Millbank without the need to enter the Tesco car park or cross the A9 trunk road. New roadside signage and guardrails at the island will also be installed.

Works will be carried out between 9:30am and 4pm from Monday 9 September to Friday 27 September. No works are expected at weekends. Some evening work may be required, however, any noisy operations will stop by 11pm.

To provide a safe work area for roadworkers and the public, the permanent traffic signals will be switched off and replaced with temporary ones to manage traffic safely through the lane closures. Outwith work hours, the temporary traffic signals will be removed and the permanent traffic signals will be switched back on. This should help to reduce queues and waiting times.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said, “Road safety is a top priority for BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland, and this footway installation will complete the project to improve road safety in this area.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and as safely as possible and minimise delays and inconvenience to the local community.”
