On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland is carrying out essential surfacing improvements worth £350,000 on the A82, south of the Fort Augustus swing bridge.
The project began on Sunday 5 November and will be completed by 7am on Friday 17 November (weather dependant). There will be no works on the night of Tuesday 14 November due to adverse weather.
The A82 will be closed in both directions from 7pm to 7am each working night, to ensure the safety of road workers and the public.
Vehicles will be held at either side of the work site until they can be escorted through the area safely during amnesty at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am.
There will also be a signed diversion route:
Northbound (Invergarry – Invermoriston) from A82/A87 Junction. Head north-west on A87 towards A887 for 13.2 miles. At the junction, turn right onto A887. Head north-east for 15 miles. Diversion ends at A887/A82 junction in Invermoriston
Southbound (Invermoriston – Invergarry) from A887/A82 Junction. Head south-west on A887 towards A887 for 15 miles. At the junction, turn left onto A87. Head south-east for 13.2 miles. Diversion ends at A87/A82 junction in Invergarry.
The A82 will be open outwith working hours to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “These maintenance works on the A82 in Fort Augustus will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.
“The use of a road closure during working hours is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.
“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot, or Twitter/X at @trafficscotland.
Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
