M876 DROVE LOAN BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT REPLACEMENT

January 31, 2023

  • Overnight carriageway closures on five nights from Monday 13 February 2023

The eastbound carriageway of the M876 will be closed for five nights beginning on Monday 13 February, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out joint repairs on the bridge carrying the motorway over Drove Loan near Bonnybridge.

The eastbound carriageway will be closed from where the M876 splits from the M80 up to Junction 2 Glenbervie, from 20:00 until 06.00 each night. The eastbound on-slip at Junction 1 Checkbar will remain open during these hours but the eastbound off-slip will be closed.

During this closure, traffic on the M80 wishing to travel east on the M876 will be diverted north to M9 Junction 9 Pirnhall, then onto the M9 southbound, adding an estimated 6 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.

For the traffic wishing to get access to Denny, the diversion will be via the A872 exit at the Pirnhall Roundabout, adding an estimated 6 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “Urgent repairs are required on the expansion joint on the eastbound carriageway of the bridge carrying the M876 over Drove Loan near Bonnybridge. We’ve therefore scheduled these works at short notice.

“We always avoid closing roads wherever it is safe and practical to do so, however the nature of these repairs means that carriageway and slip road closures are essential for the safety of road users and our operatives.

“Our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey if you need to travel in this area on Friday night.

“We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience and understanding while we carry out these essential repairs.”

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
