August 5, 2021

Thursday 5 August 2021,

  • Works start Friday 6 August 2021
  • Contraflow and overnight closures required during different phases of works

A section of the southbound M9 near Bridge of Allan is set to benefit from a £995,000 Transport Scotland investment in resurfacing improvements.

The project will take place over nine days and will begin on Friday 6 August 2021 and complete on Monday 23 August 2021. It is planned to take place over three phases as outlined below using different types of traffic management to ensure the safety of both workers and road users. No traffic management will be in place out with the dates noted in the phases below.

  • Phase 1 – Weekend contraflow starting at 19:30 on Friday 6 August, using 24-hour working, and set to be completed by 06:00 on Monday 9th
  • Phase 2 – Full three-night southbound closure of the M9 between the Kier Roundabout and Junction 10 from 19:30 until 06:00 on the nights of Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 August 2021

During the closure, a diversion route for southbound traffic will be signposted from the M9 Kier Roundabout onto the A9 and A91 before returning to the M9 at junction 9 Pirnhall Interchange. This diversion will add an estimated nine minutes and an additional two miles to affected journeys. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

  • Phase 3 – Weekend contraflow starting at 19:30 on Friday 20 August, using 24-hour working, and set to be completed by 06:00 on Monday 23 August.

Consultations have taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The improvements to this vital road will repair defects in the road surface, such as potholes and cracks, creating much safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“The planned traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists.  We will undertake 24-hour working within phases 1 and 3, when the location of works permit use of a contraflow.  During phase 2, when we are working on the section just south of Kier Roundabout, it is not possible to use a contraflow so we have overnight closures of the M9 southbound are necessary to complete the improvements.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.trafficscotland.org for up-to-date travel information and allowing extra time for their journey.
