ROAD SAFETY PROJECT TO UPGRADE SAFETY BARRIERS ON M90 NEAR PERTH TO GET UNDERWAY

Works begin Monday 22 February for five weeks

A road safety project on the M90 at Balmanno Hill near Perth is set to get underway next week.

The project will involve teams carrying out upgrades to the existing safety barriers in the verges across a 4km stretch of the M90, ensuring the integrity and safety of the trunk road network is maintained. The work follows on from safety improvements that were carried out at two bridges located between Junctions 8 and 9 earlier this year.

The safety improvements are programmed to begin on Monday 22 February and will take place between 7am and 7pm each day with work expected to take up to five weeks to complete.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a series of single lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place throughout the project. Traffic management will remain in place outwith working hours due to the nature of the works.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.

Commenting on the project, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative said: “Safety is a top priority for both Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland and this scheme on the M90 which will see improvements and upgrades to the existing road safety barriers is part of our continued commitment to that.

“The planned traffic management is essential for ensuring the safety of our teams and motorists, however we will do all we can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.”
