SECOND PHASE OF ROAD SAFETY PROJECT TO UPGRADE SAFETY BARRIER ON M90 NEAR PERTH TO GET UNDERWAY

Overnight works begin Sunday 10 January for seven weeks

The second phase of a road safety project on the M90 at Junction 10 Craigend near Perth is set to get underway from Sunday.

The project will involve teams installing new safety barriers and carrying out upgrades to existing barriers in the verges, ensuring the integrity and safety of the trunk road network is maintained at this section of the M90. The project follows on from work that was completed in December 2020.

The safety improvements are programmed to begin on Sunday 10 January and will take place between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night with work expected to take up to seven weeks to complete. No work is programmed for Friday and Saturday nights.

To allow these works to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restrictions, including road closures, will be required during the above hours on the network as follows:

  • Sunday 10 January to Monday 18 January – Northbound hardshoulder closure.

  • Tuesday 19 January to Tuesday 26 January – Southbound hardshoulder closure.

  • Wednesday 27 January to Tuesday 9 February – Southbound slip road closure from Friarton Bridge to Broxden Roundabout. A signed diversion via Junction 9 Bridge of Earn will be in place.

  • Wednesday 10 February to Tuesday 23 February – Northbound Slip Road Closure from Broxden Roundabout to Friarton Bridge. A signed diversion via Junction 9 Bridge of Earn will be in place.

All traffic management will be removed during the daytime, however a 50mph speed limit will be in place for safety.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.

Commenting on the project, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative said:

“Safety is a top priority for both Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland and this scheme will see the second phase of improvements and upgrades to the existing road safety barriers at this location on the M90 completed.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible. The traffic management is essential for ensuring the safety of our teams and motorists, however we’ve planned the closures to take place overnight to limit disruption to road users.

“We would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.”
