MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADE WORKS ON THE A7 SKIPPERS WALL, LANGHOLM

November 5, 2021

  • Two weeks of lane closures begin Monday 22 November 2021

Maintenance and upgrade works are planned at the A7 Skippers Wall (at the north end of Skippers Bridge, which carries the A7 over the River Esk south of Langholm), to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to repoint defective areas of the masonry wall, cut the vegetation above the wall and install timber fencing for the safety of personnel on future maintenance activities.

Work will take place from 08:00 until 18:00 on Mondays to Fridays only, beginning on the morning of Monday 22 November and concluding on the afternoon of Friday 3 December.

One lane of the A7 before and after Skippers Wall will be closed during these works, with traffic regulated by temporary traffic lights.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This lane closure is essential to allow us to maintain and upgrade the A7 Skippers Wall.

“We have scheduled the works during daylight hours to enhance the safety of road users and BEAR personnel. We have planned the works to minimise disruption, however if you do need to use this route during this period our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
