A new £960,000 project of essential scour repair works is set to get underway at the A82 Kiachnish Bridge near Fort William next week.
Specialist teams will be carrying out various activities within the watercourse, and particularly around the bridge abutments and piers. The works will also see some debris clearance undertaken at the southern span of the bridge, such that the river is able to flow more uniformly beneath the structure.
The proposed works will ensure that the structure, which was built in 1933, remains safe for years to come and are expected to commence of Monday 1 November for a period of approximately three months.
As the majority of the work will be taking place beneath the bridge, minimum disruption will be felt by road users on the A82.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This essential maintenance project at the Kiachnish Bridge on the A82 will help to ensure that the structure remains in a safe working condition.
“Minimum disruption will be experienced by road users with the majority of the works being carried out underneath the bridge, thus there is no need for traffic management on the carriageway.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible, and whilst no traffic management is envisaged for these works we do encourage all road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking Traffic Scotland for the latest journey information.”
