NEW PEDESTRIAN CROSSING FOR THE A68 IN PATHHEAD

October 20, 2022

  • Temporary traffic lights during construction from 24 to 28 October 2022

The A68 in Pathhead is to benefit from a new pedestrian crossing, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland set to begin work on site later this month.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A68 in Pathhead between 09:30 and 15:30 each day from 24 October to 28 October, north of the junction at Ormiston Road. This is to enable construction works associated with the installation of a new Puffin crossing.

From 31 October to 4 November, construction works to deliver the Puffin crossing will be confined to the footway and the A68 will remain open to traffic.

The road around the new crossing is also set to be resurfaced, with BEAR Scotland promising to announce details in the near future.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “We’re pleased to be able to deliver these improvements on the A68 in Pathhead on behalf of Transport Scotland. This new Puffin crossing will make it safer for local people to cross the road.

“We’ll be returning in the weeks ahead to resurface the carriageway around the new crossing, and we’ll announce details of these works as soon as they are confirmed.

“We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders including local authorities and Police Scotland in advance of these works.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
