Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is to install a new variable message sign to provide enhanced information for drivers on the approach to the bridge that carries the A1 trunk road over the River Tyne near East Linton.
The sign will be installed near Haddington, to allow drivers time to divert at Abbotsview Junction in advance of any closure.
The work will take place over two weeks, commencing on Monday 18 March. For the safety of road users and the workforce, a 24-hour lane closure will be in place until Sunday 31 March on the southbound carriageway of the A1 for 350 metres after Oaktree Junction.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “This new variable message sign will be used to alert road users when the bridge carrying the A1 over the River Tyne is closed due to high winds, so that they can divert at the next junction.
“A new maintenance parking area will also be constructed to allow workers to access the site from the road more safely.
“A lane closure is essential for safety during the works. We’re grateful to road users for their patience while we complete these improvements.”
