NIGHT TIME ESSENTIAL SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED ON THE A85 STRONMILCHAN JUNCTION

August 12, 2024

Update: Due to rearranging the current programme of works, works at A85 Stronmilchan Junction have been postponed until later in 2024. New dates to follow once confirmed.

  • Works begin on Sunday 8 September for three nights

  • Overnight road closure in place from Sunday 8 September to morning of Wednesday 11 September

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will undertake road resurfacing works on the A85 at Stronmilchan Junction beginning on Sunday 8 September for three nights.

The improvements involve resurfacing the road to make it more durable and resilient against inclement weather, as well as providing a safer journey for road users. These works will fix the deteriorating road surface and improve road markings.

Due to restricted road widths through this section of the A85, and in order to ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, the road will be closed in both directions each night between 7pm and 5am. Traffic management will be removed outwith these hours, however a 30mph speed limit will remain in place, as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface. During the periods of closure, amnesties will be provided at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12pm, 2am and 4am, allowing waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site safely

Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of  the works. A diversion is also available via the A82 and A828 for those who do not wish to wait.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said “These essential resurfacing works will upgrade the existing road surface and road markings, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users. We thank the public for their patience ahead of these road improvements.”
