BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to carry out traffic loop installation on the M8 westbound main carriageway before Junction 6.
To allow for traffic loop works to be carried out safely, the M8 westbound between Junction 5 and Junction 6A will close overnight between 20:30 until 06:00 on Wednesday, 15 March 2023.
A clearly signed diversion route will be in place for westbound traffic, directing motorists off the M8 at Junction 5 on to the B7057, then along B7066 to the A73 and using the A8 to re-joining the M8 at Junction 6A. The diversion will add approximately 1 minute and 0.2 miles to affected journeys.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “A traffic detector loop is a below road surface detection system that can identify the presence, movement and speed of a vehicle.
“The traffic loop installation will ensure traffic data is accurately recorded on this section of the M8.
“Carriageway closures are essential for the safety of workers and motorists; however, we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.
“We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible and thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
