Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, is set to carry out essential overnight road works for two nights on a section of the A702 carriageway at Abington Interchange on the M74.
The works, which will refresh road markings on a recently resurfaced section, will be carried out between 19:30 and 06:30 on Wednesday 16 & Thursday 17 April.
During this time, the A702 overpass, south roundabout and northbound off-slip at Junction 13 on the M74 will be closed. The B7078 from Junction 13 until the junction with Craighead Road on the M74, will also be closed at the same times.
A signed diversion will be in place to allow traffic looking to join the M74 northbound diverted via the M74 at Junction 12, and for southbound traffic, diverted via Junction 14. Both diversions will add approximately 15 minutes to journey times.
Non-motorway traffic will be diverted via the A73, A70 and B7078, adding approximately 36 minutes to journey times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager said: “It is necessary to close the carriageway during the works to also ensure the safety of our teams. However, we’ve scheduled them during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“We would ask motorists to consider their journey in advance and thank them for their patience while our workforce carry out these improvements.”
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.traffic.gov.scot or @trafficscotland on X for up-to-date travel information.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
