A section of the M8 eastbound between Junction 5 and Junction 6 is set to benefit from a £310,000 investment from Transport Scotland, as its operating company BEAR Scotland plans to resurface approximately 1.6 kilometres of the trunk road.
For the safety of workers and road users during these works, Junction 6a to Junction 5 on the M8 eastbound will be closed between 20:30 and 06:00 for 4 nights, from Thursday 27 October to Tuesday 1 November. No works will take place on Saturdays on Sundays.
A diversion route for eastbound traffic will be clearly signposted directing traffic from Junction 6a, via the A8, A73, B7066 and the B7057 before re-joining the M8 eastbound at Junction 5. The diversion will add an estimated 7 minutes and 1 mile to affected journeys. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve safety for motorists on this section of the M8.
“Road closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible. We thank the public in advance for their patience.”
