BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to carry out coring investigation works on the westbound M8 near Junction 5 on the night of 9 December.
To allow these works to be carried out safely, the westbound carriageway of the M8 will be closed between Junctions 5 and 6A from 20:30 until 06:00.
A clearly signed diversion route will be in place, directing westbound traffic off the M8 at Junction 5 and along the B7057, B7066 and A8 before re-joining the M8 at Junction 6A. This diversion will add approximately five minutes and 0.3 miles to affected journeys.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These coring investigation works will help us determine the work that will be required when we come back to resurface this section of the M8.
“Carriageway closures are essential for the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.
“We will do all we can to complete the works as quickly as possible and thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
