Updated 19 March 2025: Due to contractor availability, road improvements on the A9 Drumochter duals will now start on Sunday 30 March. Please see new date below.
BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s North West trunk road operating company, is set to start essential surfacing and road marking improvements on the A9 southbound dual carriageway at Drumochter.
Works start at 7pm on Sunday 30 March with all works scheduled to be completed by 6am on the morning of Saturday 19 April.
To ensure the safety of both workers and road users, a 24 hour single lane closure will be implemented on the southbound carriageway during the surfacing works. Additionally, a convoy system will be in use between the hours of 7pm and 6am.
Whilst road markings are being carried out on Friday 18 April, the road will be fully open during the day switching to a single lane closure with convoy from 7pm until 6am on Saturday 19 April.
Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This crucial surfacing project on the A9 Drumochter Duals will fix existing defects and significantly enhance the driving experience for all motorists.
“Our teams are committed to completing these works quickly and with safety as our top priority. We extend our gratitude to the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.
“To minimise delays, we recommend that motorists plan their journeys in advance by consulting the Traffic Scotland website for real-time travel updates.”
