Motorists using the A87 in Broadford on the Isle of Skye are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with works due to get underway on Monday 4 July.
The improvements will see over 500 metres of the A87 resurfaced between Branch Road and Broadford Co-op, creating a smoother and safer road surface for motorists.
The project is scheduled to begin on Monday 4 July and is expected to take place over four nights. Works will take place between 7pm and 6am, with all works anticipated to be complete by 7am on Friday 8 July, subject to weather conditions.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, there will be two-way temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system in operation during working hours. Outwith working hours, a speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A87 in Broadford will help to address defects and greatly improve the route for road users.
“We have taken steps to minimise disruption by carrying out the works overnight with a convoy system in place to keep the traffic moving. The traffic management programmed is essential to keep motorists and roadworkers safe and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.
“We thank the local community and road users for their patience whilst we carry out these essential improvements. We encourage road users to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
