OVERNIGHT INVESTIGATION WORKS ON THE A720 AND A702

October 1, 2021

  • Works commence Monday 4 October 2021 for five nights

Overnight traffic restrictions will be in place on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass and the A702 for five nights from Monday 4 October. This is to allow BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, to carry out coring investigation works in advance of future resurfacing.

All work be carried out at night and is due to be completed by 06:30 on the morning of Saturday 9 October.

For the safety of road workers and motorists, the following traffic restrictions will be in place during these works:

  • Between 20:30 and 06:00 on the nights of 4 and 5 October, the westbound carriageway of the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass between Straiton and Lothianburn will be subject to alternating lane closures with speed restrictions.
  • Between 19:30 and 06:30 on the nights of 6, 7 and 8 October, the A702 between Damhead and Hillend will be subject to a combination of temporary traffic light signals and a 10mph convoy.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These investigation works on the A720 and A702 are essential to the design and planning of future resurfacing improvements.

“Traffic management will be in place to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, however, to help minimise delays we’ve planned the works to take place during night-time hours.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these investigations.”

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.trafficscotland.org for up-to-date travel information and allowing extra time for their journey.
