OVERNIGHT MAINTENANCE PROJECT PLANNED FOR M90 FRIARTON BRIDGE AND CRAIGEND INTERCHANGE

September 29, 2021

Overnight works start Monday 4 October for five nights

Five nights of routine maintenance and bridge inspections on the M90 Junction 10 Craigend Interchange and Friarton Bridge near Perth are scheduled to take place next week.

The project will allow teams to carry out cyclic maintenance and inspections work on the bridges and slip roads of the busy M90 Craigend Interchange and Friarton Bridge, ensuring they are continuing to operate safely.  The works will include cleaning the bridge deck joints, channels and verges, as well as drainage clearance, hedge maintenance and general inspections of the bridges on the interchange.

The overnight project will begin on Monday 4 October and will take place between 7.30pm to 6.30am across five nights with all works expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 9 October.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and motorists, a series of overnight closures will be in place on the slip-roads at Craigend Interchange throughout the project as teams will be working on the carriageway.  There will also be alternating lane closures on the A85 below the Friarton Bridge.  Diversion routes will be in place when required and signs will be erected in advance to notify motorists. No works will be carried out during the daytime and all traffic management will be removed.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s Operating Company Representative for the North East, said: “These routine maintenance works on the M90 Craigend Interchange and Friarton Bridge are part of our commitment to ensuring that this busy location of the network continues to function at the highest of standards.

“The traffic management programmed is essential as teams will be working on the carriageway. However, every effort will be made to minimise the duration of the slip road closures each night to help limit the disruption to motorists.

“We would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.”

The works will be carried out by BEAR Scotland and have been planned in consultation with Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and Traffic Scotland.
