OVERNIGHT RESURFACING IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A7

October 19, 2020

  • Works begin Monday 9 November for two nights
  • Second phase of works 24 November to 5 December

Motorists using the A7 Between Langholm and Galashiels are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with £612,000 worth of resurfacing works set to begin on the night of Monday 9 November.

These overnight works will see almost 4.15 km of carriageway resurfaced at six locations, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, three phases of overnight road closures are required over two weeks.

Closures and diversions will be in place on the A7 at the following times and locations:

  • 9 November: The A7 will be closed from 20:00 until 06:00 between Selkirk and Kingsknowes roundabout, with a diversion signposted via the A699, A68 and A6091. This diversion will add approximately 13 miles and 15 minutes to affected journeys.
  • 10 November: The A7 will be closed from 20:00 until 06:00 between Selkirk and Hawick, with a diversion signposted via the A698, A68 and A699. This diversion will add approximately 14 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys.
  • 24 November to 5 December: The A7 will be closed between Hawick and Canonbie from 20:00 until 06:00 each night until the morning of 6 December, except for the night of Sunday 29 November. A diversion will be signposted via the B7201, B6357 and A6088. This diversion will add approximately 6 miles and 15 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents living within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Representative, said: “These overnight resurfacing projects will improve the condition of the road surface across six sections of the A7, benefitting road users for years to come.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
