OVERNIGHT RESURFACING PLANNED FOR A85 GLEN TURRET TO QUOIGS

January 22, 2025

  • Road surfacing improvements from Sunday 16 February until Friday 28 February

  • Overnight road closure with diversion and hourly amnesties in place between 7pm and 5am

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out £637,000 worth of road surface improvements on the A85 between Glen Turret and Quoigs, west of Crieff.

The resurfacing project will take place from Sunday 16 February, between 7pm and 5am each night with no work being carried out on Friday or Saturday nights. Works will be completed by 5am on Friday 28 February, subject to weather conditions.

To facilitate these improvements and ensure the safety of all road users, the A85 will be closed in both directions at the work site between 7pm and 5am. During road closures, traffic will be diverted along an alternate route via the A822, A823, A9, A820 and the A84. This is an additional 46.1 miles for those travelling between Crieff and Lochearnhead, which is approximately 38 minutes extra journey time.

During periods of closure, amnesties at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am and 4am will allow waiting vehicles to be escorted safely through the site under a 10mph convoy.

The road will be open as normal from 5am each day to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary road surface.

Access through the work site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This resurfacing work on the A85 will address road defects and enhance driving conditions.

“We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the projects by carrying out the work during the night.

“We are grateful to the local community and road users for their patience. Please check the Traffic Scotland website for the latest travel updates before embarking on your journey.”
