The A1 is set to benefit from improved road surfaces, with six nights of essential resurfacing works scheduled between Friday 3 March and Friday 10 March.
The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, resurface a combined 1km of carriageway along the A1 to create safer and smoother journeys for motorists.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and users during these works, the southbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed south of Spott Roundabout on 3 March, south of Thistly Cross Roundabout on 6 and 7 March and south of Oaktree junction from 8 to 10 March.
Signed diversions will be in place over the six nights of works between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00. There will be no works on the nights of Saturday 4 March and Sunday 5 March.
Friday 3 March – Road users will leave the A1 at Spott Roundabout before travelling onto Spott Road and then the A1087 before re-joining the A1 at the Broxburn Junction. Northbound traffic will be unaffected.
Monday 6 March – Tuesday 7 March – Road users will follow the diversion route from Thistly Cross Roundabout to Broxburn Junction via the A119, A1087, Summerfield Road, Countess Road, Queens Road and the A1087.
Wednesday 8 March – Friday 10 March – Road users will leave the A1 at Oaktree Junction to join the A199 and will re-join the A1 Northbound at Abbotsview Junction.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The surfacing improvements will help to address any defects on this section of the A1.
“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out this project. We will do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.
Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
