OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON M8 WESTBOUND

April 25, 2023

  • Overnight carriageway closures Wednesday 10 May to Friday 12 May 2023

A section of the westbound M8 between junctions 4 and 4A is set to benefit from resurfacing improvements.

The resurfacing works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland resurface 1 kilometre of carriageway, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

For the safety of workers and road users, the M8 – from Junction 4 to Junction 4A westbound – will be closed for three nights from 20:30 until 06:00, beginning Wednesday 10 May.

A diversion route for westbound traffic will be signposted via the junction 4 off-slip, A801, A706 and the B7066 before re-joining the M8 westbound at junction 4A. This will add an estimated four minutes and one mile to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve safety for motorists on this section of the M8.”

“Road closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.”
