OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE A68 DRYGRANGE BRIDGE

December 22, 2021

  • One night road closure on Wednesday 12 January 2021

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is planning to resurface the A68 Drygrange Bridge on the night of Wednesday 12 January.

Drygrange Bridge carries the A68 over the River Tweed north of Ravenswood roundabout. A total of 300 metres of carriageway will be resurfaced.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, the A68 will be closed in both directions between the road to Leaderfoot Viaduct and the A68/B6360 Gattonside Junction from 19:30 until 06:00. A diversion route will be signposted between Earlston and St Boswells via the A6105, A6089 and A699 and vice versa. This diversion will add approximately 34 minutes and 20 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles and the public bus service will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the A68.

“Road closures are essential for safety during these works, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption. We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
