OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE A7

September 1, 2023

  • Overnight closures put in place at two locations on the A7 between 4-6 September 2023

The A7 is set to benefit from an improved road surface with a total of two nights of resurfacing works beginning on Monday, 4 September.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface a combined 0.25km of carriageway, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the A7 at Selkirk High Street will be closed between 19:00 and 00:30, and the A7 at Highmill Bridge, North of Langholm, will be closed between 19.00 and 05.00.

Works will take place at two sections of the A7, with dates and diversions for each as follows:

  • A7 Selkirk High Street, Monday 4 September to Tuesday 5 September – Road Closure with a signed diversion. Road users are to leave the A7 and follow the A6091, A688 St Boswells and A699 to Selkirk. This diversion will add approximately 13 miles and 21 minutes to affected journeys.
  • A7 Highmill Bridge, North of Langholm, Tuesday 5 September to Wednesday 6 September – Road closure with a signed diversion. Road users are to leave the A7 and will be diverted via Canonbie.  Follow the B7201, B6357 and A6088 to Hawick. This diversion will add approximately 8 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The surfacing improvements will help to address defects on these sections of the A7 and will improve the driving experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
