OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON THE A702 NORTH OF RUTHERFORD JUNCTION

November 4, 2022

  • Overnight road closures planned from 23 November to 28 November 2022

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is planning to resurface part of the A702 0.5km south of Carlops.

The works have been programmed to commence on Wednesday 23 November until Monday 28 November.  No work is planned to take place on the weekend.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, the A702 will be closed in both directions between Bush Loan Road and the A721 crossroads each night between the hours of 19:30 and 06:30.

A diversion route will be signposted via Bush Loan Road, A701, A72 and A721 for southbound traffic. Northbound traffic will also be diverted via these roads. The diversion will add approximately 9 minutes and 3.2 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles and the public bus service will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the A702.

“Road closures are essential for safety during these works, however, we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption. We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
