Friday 13 May
Please be advised that the planned road safety improvements on the A96 through Alves will no longer take place overnight as it has not been possible to programme all noisy operations so that they do not impact residents.
The project was set to begin on Monday 16 May for two weeks with improvements taking place between 7pm and 6am each night. However, works are now programmed to begin on Tuesday 17 May and take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm over two weeks. No works will take place during the weekend periods.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, temporary traffic lights and lane closures will be in place during the day. All traffic management will be removed overnight.
All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

Tuesday 10 May
A road safety improvement project on the A96 through Alves is set to get underway from Monday 16 May.
The project will involve teams carrying out kerbing works and localised resurfacing as well as conducting minor realignment of the existing uncontrolled pedestrian crossing on the A96 within Alves. The project will provide a safer crossing point for all pedestrians in Alves.
The road safety project will get underway from Monday 16 May and is expected to take place over two weeks, subject to weather conditions. The improvements will be carried out between 7pm and 6am each night, with all noisy operations expected to be completed by 11pm each night. No works will take place during the weekend periods.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, temporary traffic lights and lane closures will be in place overnight. All traffic management will be removed during the daytime.
Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “Trunk Road safety is paramount at BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland and this project will create a safer crossing point for pedestrians in Alves.
“The traffic management required to undertake these works is essential to keep everyone safe, however we’ve programmed for the works to take place overnight and have arranged for all noisy operations to be completed before 11pm to help minimise disruption for local residents.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible. We would like to thank road users in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.”
