Motorists using the A1 at Fairniside are set to benefit from of an improved road surface, with £90,500 worth of resurfacing works due to begin on Monday 2 November.
The project will see almost 0.4km of carriageway between Ayton and Burnmouth resurfaced over two nights, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.
To keep roadworkers as well as road users safe during the project, an overnight road closure will be in place over the extent of the project from 20:00 until 06:30 on the nights of 2, 3, and 4 November.
A diversion route will be signposted from Grantshouse to Berwick Bypass, via the A6112 and A6105, adding approximately 19 minutes and 8.8 miles to affected journeys.
The road will remain open during the day, however a 30mph speed limit will be in place as road users will be travelling over a temporary surface.
Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.
