OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR THE A85 EAST OF TAYNUILT RESCHEDULED

Please be advised that the planned surfacing improvements on the A85 east of Taynuilt have been rescheduled.

The project was programmed to get underway on Thursday 12 May with all work expected to be completed by 5am on Thursday 19 May. However, due to operational issues, works are now scheduled to begin on Sunday 15 May for five nights. All surfacing improvements are expected to completed by 5am on Friday 20 May, subject to weather conditions.

Traffic management will remain the same as originally planned.  Work will be carried out using a full road closure, just east of Taynuilt, to provide a suitably safe working area.  During working hours, a diversion will be in place via the A82 and A828 to Ballachulish, adding an additional 40 minutes to journey times between Tyndrum and Connel. However, to minimise disruption to road users, amnesty periods will be provided on the A85 at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am when waiting traffic will be escorted safely through the roadworks.  Road users are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

Road users are advised that there is a height restriction of 4.2m (13’9’’) on the diversion route at Connel Bridge. Vehicles exceeding this height should advance to the A85 closure points where they will be stacked until the next available amnesty allows traffic to pass through the work site.

The A85 will be open during the daytime period, although a reduced speed limit will be in place and road users should drive with care as they will be running on a temporary road surface.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.  Local access for residents and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.

All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

Real-time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland .org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the mobile site my.trafficscotland.org

Tuesday 3 May

Project to begin on Thursday 12 May for five nights, excluding Friday and Saturday nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety between 8pm and 5am

A section of the A85 east of Taynuilt is to benefit from an improved road surface with work set to get underway on Thursday 12 May.

The overnight project will see improvements completed over a 670 metre section of the A85, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.

Resurfacing operations will take place between 8pm and 5am each night, with no works planned for Friday or Saturday night. The project is scheduled to be completed by 5am on Thursday 19 May, subject to weather conditions.

Due to the narrow road widths present at this location on the A85, work will be carried out using a full road closure, just east of Taynuilt, to provide a suitably safe working area.  A diversion will be in place via the A82 and A828 to Ballachulish, adding an additional 40 minutes to journey times between Tyndrum and Connel. However, to minimise disruption to road users, amnesty periods will be provided on the A85 at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am when waiting traffic will be escorted safely through the roadworks.  Road users are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.

Road users are advised that there is a height restriction of 4.2m (13’9’’) on the diversion route at Connel Bridge. Vehicles exceeding this height should advance to the A85 closure points where they will be stacked until the next available amnesty.

The A85 will be open during the daytime period, although a reduced speed limit will be in place and road users should drive with care as they will be running on a temporary road surface.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.  Local access for residents and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and to share information about the project in advance.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A85 east of Taynuilt will help address any defects and greatly improve the quality and safety of the carriageway for road users.

“The traffic management proposed is essential to the safety of our teams; however, we have taken steps to minimise disruption by carrying out the programme of works overnight and avoiding works during typically busy periods of road operation.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage road users to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
