OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR THE A92 LETHAM TO FERNIE

May 20, 2022

Works start Sunday 22 May for six nights

A section of the A92 southbound between Letham and Fernie is to benefit from surfacing improvements with works set to get underway from Sunday 22 May.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the A92 between Letham and Fernie, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is scheduled to begin on Sunday 22 May and is expected to take place over six nights. The improvements will be carried out between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night, with surfacing due to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 28 May, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, temporary traffic lights will be in place during working hours. Access to Fernie Castle will be maintained throughout. Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, however a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This surfacing project between Letham and Fernie has been designed to improve the general condition and safety of this section of the A92 for motorists.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists, however our teams will do all they can to complete the scheme as safely and quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A92. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
