The first phase of an important road improvement project on the A83 south of Butterbridge was completed on 22 December 2022. To complete the resurfacing work, and ensure a safer and smoother driving experience, the next phase, at the A83 west of Honeymoon Bridge, will get underway on Tuesday 31 January.
The combined project will see a total of 1,600m of resurfacing completed on the A83 between Ardgartan and Cairndow.
The second project will take place over seven nights from Tuesday 31 January, between 7pm and 5am each night, with no works on Friday and Saturday nights. Works will be completed by 5am on Thursday 9 February, weather dependant.
To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, there will be lane closures with temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system during working hours.
The road will be open from 5am to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary road surface. Access through the work site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Due to the proximity of these works to the A83 Rest and be Thankful, if weather dictates a diversion via the Old Military Road, the works will cease to ensure no additional delays are encountered.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This resurfacing project on the A83 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.
“The overnight works are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the projects by carrying out the work overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
