A two-week programme of overnight road marking improvement and stud replacement is under way on the M90 between Junctions 1B and 3. Work commenced on Sunday 27 March and is being carried out in 10 phases, with a combination of overnight lane closures and slip road closures in each phase.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is using these closures to replace the current road markings with Weatherline road markings. Weatherline is more retroreflective, skid resistant and durable than the current road markings. Any defective or missing road studs will also be replaced.
During week one, overnight works are taking place on the M90 northbound carriageway from Junction 1B to Junction 3, using lane closures on the main carriageway and slip road closures with signed diversion routes. Week two will see a similar approach on the southbound carriageway.
As well as lane closures on the main carriageway, the following slip road closures will be in place from 20:00 until 06:30 each night:

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It’s essential for safety that we close lanes and slip roads while these works are carried out, however we will keep the M90 mainline open to reduce delays as much as possible.
“We’ve split the works into 10 phases to minimise the volume of closures on any one night, reduce delays on the main carriageway and increase work efficiency.
“If you are planning to use the M90 at night over the next two weeks, our advice is to check what restrictions will be in place and allow extra time for your journey if necessary.
“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”
