UPDATE: RESURFACING SLIP ROADS AT M9 JUNCTION 1 NEWBRIDGE

August 10, 2023

Update: Due to the  heavy rain and strong winds forecast in the area, these works have been postponed. The works will be reprogrammed as soon as possible.

  • Eight overnight slip road closures 11 to 19 September 2023

The slip roads on and off southbound M9 at Junction 1 Newbridge are set to benefit from a £270,000 Transport Scotland investment in resurfacing improvements, with operating company BEAR Scotland planning to renew approximately one kilometre of the trunk road.

For the safety of workers and road users during these works, the southbound off-slip at M9 Junction 1 Newbridge will be closed from 20:30 until 06:00 on the nights of 11, 12 and 13 September.

A diversion route for traffic wishing to exit the M9 at Junction 1 will be signposted via the M8 eastbound to Hermiston Gait, the A720 City of Edinburgh Bypass and the A8 Glasgow Road back to Newbridge Roundabout, adding an estimated 12 minutes and 9.4 miles to affected journeys.

The southbound on-slip at M9 Junction 1 will then be closed from 20:30 until 06:00 on the nights of 13, 14, 15, 18 and 19 September.

Traffic wishing to join the M9 southbound at Junction 1 will be diverted from Newbridge Roundabout via the A8 Glasgow Road, the A720 and the M8 westbound, adding an estimated 13 minutes and 8.8 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will result in smoother and safer journeys for motorists using these slip roads on the M9.

“Slip road closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.”
