RESURFACING THE A1 SOUTHBOUND, PRIOR TO OAKTREE

November 21, 2024

  • Five overnight carriageway closures, 9 to 13 December 2024

The A1 southbound between Gladsmuir and Oaktree Junctions is set to benefit from carriageway improvements, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning five nights of resurfacing works from Monday 9 to Friday 13 December.

The works will take place between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00 each night.

The A1 southbound carriageway will be closed at Gladsmuir Junction while the works take place, with a diversion route signposted to Oaktree Junction via the A199. This diversion will add 2 minutes and 0.2 miles onto effected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during the works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“The diversion is a short one, so we don’t expect any significant disruption.

“We thank motorists and the local community for their patience and understanding.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
