Motorists using the A6091 west of Melrose Roundabout are set to benefit from a package of road surface improvement works.
The £65,000 project will see 250m of carriageway resurfaced, improving skid resistance and ride quality for road users.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the travelling public during these works, the A6091 will be closed at this location from 19:30 to 06:00 on the night of 23 March.
A diversion will be signposted as follows. Eastbound traffic will be diverted via the A7 to Selkirk, the A699 towards St Boswell and the A68. Westbound traffic will be diverted along the same route in reverse. This diversion will add approximately 14 miles and 22min to affected journeys.
Access to residential properties will be maintained throughout the works, with residents within the closure escorted through the site as necessary. A phone number for residents to call when they require an escort will be displayed on a notice board on site.
Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and access to Borders General Hospital will also be maintained.
Consultation has been carried out with relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.
“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
